Overview

These are main studs, not head studs. Main and head studs serve different purposes—selecting the right one is crucial. For head studs, search more in our catalog. These studs measure 12 mm. Before purchasing, please confirm that your vehicle is a late 1997 model to 2006, as they are not compatible with early 1997 models.

Why Main Studs?

Main studs provide superior clamping force compared to main bolts, reducing wear on block threads and assisting with main cap alignment. Unlike bolts, which twist during tightening, studs remain stationary, reducing the chance of main cap walking under high loads. They are especially beneficial in high-performance applications where increased stability and durability are required.

Disclaimer: Designed to secure crankshaft main bearing caps. This is NOT a head stud kit.

XOTIC 7200 / Material comparison

Tensile & yield strength.

Two measures of strength. Explore the comparison for XOTIC 7200 alloy and 8740 chromoly steel.

Tensile strength

The maximum tensile stress a material withstands before failure.

Strength specification

The published tensile-strength range for XOTIC 7200 main studs is 220,000–240,000 psi. Tensile strength describes the material under tension; it is not an installed clamping-force or horsepower rating.

Before you begin

A good install starts here.

Review the instructions and any application-specific requirements before you begin.

Before you order

Will this fit my vehicle?

This kit uses 12 mm main studs for late 1997 through 2006 applications; early 1997 configurations require a different kit. Use the vehicle checker above to confirm your exact application. For an engine swap or an unusual setup, contact XOTIC before ordering.

Are tools and assembly lubricant included?

Yes. The included sockets, Allen tools and assembly lubricant are listed in the kit contents. Check the installation procedure for any additional equipment needed for the complete job.

Should the main bearing bores be checked?

Yes. Check the main bearing bores for size, roundness and alignment after changing the fasteners. If correction is needed, have the machine shop use the final assembly fasteners, lubricant and specified torque when checking and machining the main tunnel.
